Authenticity: A Tranquil and Zen Residence by Wei-Li Liu

Embracing the Essence of Wabi-sabi

Tranquility and Zen serve as the guiding principles behind this unique design. The aim is to provide both a spacious living environment and a high quality of life. To achieve visual comfort, Liu simplifies combinations that might otherwise become complicated, employing different structures to layer the space while avoiding an excessive use of colors. The use of steel items and darker wooden materials creates a rough yet graceful atmosphere.

The realization of this design is a testament to Liu's attention to detail. The texture of the floor beautifully separates the public space into two distinct areas. Wood spreads out in the living room, exuding a gentle vibe for relaxation, while black stone naturally draws attention to the dining area. A glass brick wall allows ample natural light to flood the space, complemented by embedded various-colored lights that illuminate the darker tones. The clear transition of textures smoothly transforms scenarios in the semi-open space.

This project spans 132 square meters and was completed in March 2021 in Taichung, Taiwan. The design team, consisting of Wei-Li Liu and Yi-Jun Cai, meticulously researched and implemented control systems for lighting, sound, air, and temperature to ensure a comfortable living environment that aligns with the residents' habits. Eco-friendly and bug-proof materials were used to guarantee safety and comfort, while the minimalist design approach reduces waste and promotes a sense of calm.

Authenticity has been recognized for its excellence and creativity, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2022. This prestigious accolade is bestowed upon designs that showcase resourcefulness and authenticity, incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology. The design not only exhibits strong technical and creative skills but also contributes to improvements in quality of life, making the world a better place.
